Yesterday, I had the opportunity to speak with Steve Inskeep of NPR's Morning Edition about the health care bill currently in the Senate. If passed, this bill would be devastating to the health of our nation. Our population is getting older and poorer, and Medicaid provides a vital safety net, covering 60 percent of seniors in nursing homes, 49 percent of all babies born and many other vulnerable members of our society.
This is not the time to eviscerate the program, as the bill proposes to do.
Nearly all of us have a loved one or know someone who depends on Medicaid for their health. I encourage everyone who has been supported by Medicaid to share your stories and make your voice heard before the bill comes to a vote.
