Six ways we’ll create healthier communities

Written by Rod Hochman | Oct 18 2016

Last week, we celebrated our 100th day as Providence St. Joseph Health. It was a great opportunity to recognize the coming together of two longstanding organizations founded by women – the Sisters of Providence and the Sisters of St. Joseph of Orange.

Their commitment to serving the poor and vulnerable and the dear neighbor in our communities remains alive and well today thanks to our more than 106,000 caregivers who share their expertise and skills with people in need every day.

Together, we touch more than 11 million lives per year in diverse communities across the Western United States, from the remote corners of Alaska to the most populated counties in Southern California to the south plains of Texas.

On our 100th day, I gave a keynote address at a summit for our clinicians and talked about the challenges and opportunities ahead, as well where we’re going as a new organization and how our strategies will strengthen our commitment to the communities we serve.

In my talk, I outline six key strategies:

1.  “Strengthening the core” by focusing on our caregivers and the fundamentals of our operations

2.  Population health

3.  Whole person care

4.  The digital platform and innovation

5.  Genomics

6.  Mental health and wellness

I hope you’ll take a moment to watch the video to learn more about our strategies. While the road ahead will not always be easy, we have a strong heritage to guide us, and together we have an unprecedented opportunity to create healthier communities and improve the lives of millions of people. Thank you for being part of this journey and for all you do for those we serve.
