MY VIEWS

Providence provides $2.1 billion in community benefit

Across the seven states served by the Providence family of organizations, I am always proud of how our more than 120,000 caregivers show up every day to bring the Mission to those in need. My pride grows when I read the inspiring stories of compassion, dedication, hope and healing in our annual report.

Despite these challenging times for health care, our commitment to our communities remains strong. In 2023, we invested nearly $2.1 billion in community benefit programs that included:

  • Providing 557,000 patients with financial assistance, including free and discounted care, interest-free, long-term payment plans, and assistance in securing health care coverage.
  • Assisting roughly 40,000 previously uninsured patients with enrolling in Medicaid coverage.

This significant investment shows how focused we are on addressing the root causes of community health issues. Working with our long-standing community partners, we are identifying areas of greatest need and finding new, innovative ways to improve the health outcomes of our communities and make sure everyone has equitable access to quality care. These partnerships are great examples of collaborating to transform health care.

As you read the inspiring stories from the 2023 Annual Report to Our Communities, you’ll meet some of the people we’ve had the privilege to serve, as well as the caregivers and community partners who helped them.

I’m grateful for all our caregivers and local partners for continuing to make a lasting, meaningful difference and helping us achieve our vision of health for a better world.
